On 13/05/2018 afternoon, in the spirit of celebrating the 63^rd anniversary of Hai Phong’s liberation, in Lach Huyen, Hai Phong International Container Terminal Company Ltd. (HICT) in cooperation with Hai Phong People’s Committee held the Grand Opering of Hai Phong International Container Terminal, taking the first container ship into berth. That was Wan Hai 517 from Wan Hai Lines (Taiwan) with full load of 58,000 ton, carrying more than 4,600 TEU into berth; it was also the largest container ship ever coming into berth in Hai Phong port. Attending the event was Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc – Politburo member, Prime Minister, Mr. Tsukasa Akimoto, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry in Japan, Mr. Kunio Umeda – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Vietnam with all leader representatives of ministries, central services and departments; leader representatives of some cities and provinces.  From the city was Mr. Le Van Thanh – Central Communist Party Committee Member, Municipal Communist Party Committee Secretary,  Hai Phong People’s Council Chairman, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nghia – Municipal Communist Party Committee Standing Vice Secretary, Head of Hai Phong Parliamentary Delegation, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung – Hai Phong People’s Committee Chairman, other comrades from Municipal Standing Communist Party Committee and Hai Phong People’s Committee Vice Chairman, city leaders through periods, Employer’s representatives… From BDCC was Mr. Nguyen Trong Khai – General Director, Mr. Luu Hong Giang – Deputy General Director with leaders and experts of BDCC functional departments.

The rituals of ribbon cutting for grand opening of HP International Container Terminal

On 12/5/2016, Hai Phong International Container Terminal was ground broken to be built in Cat Hai island (Cat Hai district) and completed 2 years later. The Terminal is measured at 44,9 ha in area, with 2 container terminals in 750-m length, possible to anchor a container ship with full load up to 14,000 TEU or general carriers with full load up to 160,000 ton. It also has 2 barge berths in 150-m length, anchoring oil tanker and container barges at full load of 160 TEU… Contributing positively to the aforesaid achievements, Bach Dang Construction Corporation – Contractor for Package CP3: Construction of roads, yards, trees for road, yard area, drainage system, water supply system, wastewater treatment station, waste gathering area with lean-to, fire protection system under Project of Construction investment of Hai Phong International Gateway Port – Component B (Stage-up Stage), always defined the importance of the project and contractor’s responsibility. BDCC, thus, with no fear for time, concentrated on their comprehensive equipment and man force to complete the work as Employer’s request.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc dignified and highly appreciated the efforts of Employer, Contractors, Ministries, Central and Hai Phong services and departments in sharing and supporting the people under project for its completion as committed.

Mr. Le Van Thanh emphasized that putting Lach Huyen Container Terminal into operation would open a new development trend for Hai Phong. From a traditional sea port with capacity of 40,000-ton-cargo carrier operation, it has become possible to anchor the ships of 100,000 ton to 150,000 ton, making motivation for not only Hai Phong but whole Northern region also and taking Hai Phong step by step into higher development to become a grand port in local area and in the world.
